Reconstructive Breast Surgeries
There are a several types of breast surgeries that are considered reconstructive – breast reduction, breast reconstruction, and top surgery. Breast reduction surgery helps women who have disproportionately large breasts for the bodies, which cause pain for them in their shoulders and back. They can have deep groove marks in their shoulders from their bra straps and skin breakdown issues under their breasts. Women who’ve struggled with large breasts and symptoms associated to them can have breast reduction surgery to remove excess breast tissue. Each insurance carrier is different in how they define medically necessary breast reduction, but nearly all cover surgery if it’s medically indicated and meets their guidelines.
Breast reconstruction is surgery done after a woman has a mastectomy or lumpectomy, typically due to breast cancer or being diagnosed with a genetic predisposition to breast cancer. Our surgeons offer multiple techniques to reconstruct breasts after a mastectomy, which fall into two main categories – reconstruction with implants or reconstruction with the woman’s own tissue. Our surgeons work with each patient to help them determine the best option for their reconstruction. Reconstruction with our office includes not only the recreating of the breasts, but also of the nipples, either with a surgical procedure, tattooing or a combination of both.
Some of our surgeons also offer M-F and F-M top surgery for gender affirming surgery. Depending on the insurance plan a patient has, this may be covered by insurance as a reconstructive surgery. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.
