Thomas J. Rishavy, MD

Thomas J. Rishavy, MD joined Northland Plastic Surgery in August 2004 and became a partner in the practice in January of 2008. A native of southern Minnesota, Dr. Rishavy earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biomedical Sciences at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He attended medical school at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska, completed his residency in general surgery at the Detroit Medical Center, and finished his fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Rishavy is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Burn Association. He enjoys teaching and giving presentations to family-practice residency students and other groups, and lectures at the UMD Medical School and the College of St. Scholastica.

Dr. Rishavy has volunteered on international surgical missions around the world. In January 2016 he spent 10 days in the Philippines with the Global Medical Foundation, where his team cared for 50 individuals — performing cleft lip and palate repairs along with head and neck tumor resections. He traveled to Belize for a surgical mission in December 2013 with Peacework International, and to Yanan, China in October 2011 with Operation Smile, a worldwide organization providing free cleft lip and palate surgeries to children whose families could not otherwise afford them.

Outside of work, he and his son enjoy the outdoors, cooking, traveling and skiing.
