Cosmetic Surgery at Northland Plastic Surgery

Cosmetic surgery, also known as aesthetic surgery, is focused on enhancing appearance. The goal is to improve a person’s appearance, self-esteem, and self-confidence, with symmetry and proportion as desired key outcomes.

Plastic surgeons train through a six to eight year residency program to become experts in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. A cosmetic surgeon is NOT a plastic surgeon; a cosmetic surgeon is only required to have one year of training in cosmetic surgery.

All surgery carries some risk. While plastic surgery can improve a part of your body, it rarely improves your whole life, so make sure your goals are realistic. Smoking carries well-documented risks for surgical patients, including delayed healing, higher infection rates, implant failures, and higher risk of heart and lung problems. Because we want every patient to have their best opportunity to heal, we require our cosmetic surgery patients to stop smoking prior to surgery and encourage them to remain smoke free while healing.
