Cosmetic Surgery
Cosmetic Surgery – What Is It?
Cosmetic surgery is surgery that is focused on enhancing appearance. The goal of cosmetic surgery, also known as aesthetic surgery, is to improve a person’s appearance, self-esteem and self-confidence. Symmetry and proportion are desired key outcomes. This is elective surgery, and is not covered by insurance.
Cosmetic Surgery with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
Cosmetic surgeons are not the same as plastic surgeons. Plastic surgeons are trained through a six to eight year residency program to be experts in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. A cosmetic surgeon is not. A cosmetic surgeon is only required to have one year of training in cosmetic surgery.
At Northland Plastic Surgery, our plastic surgeons are board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Our surgeons provide surgery to patients in Duluth, Superior, the Arrowhead region, the Range, central Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin, the UP of Michigan, Ontario and surrounding areas. With 80 years of combined experience, our surgeons know how to help you achieve your goals.
Smoking and Surgery Don't Mix
The number of people choosing plastic surgery has soared in recent years. At Northland Plastic Surgery, we highly encourage anyone considering surgery to be tobacco- and nicotine-free. Smoking carries well-documented risks for surgical patients, including delayed healing, higher infection rates, implant failures, and higher risk of heart and lung problems. Your best outcome is our goal; you cannot attain your best outcome if you smoke.
Set Realistic Expectations
All surgery carries some risk. And while plastic surgery can improve a part of your body, it rarely improves your whole life. Make sure your goals are realistic.
