Arm Lift Surgery Explained
By Dr. Rishavy
What is an arm lift?
People come in and they enquire about a procedure of body contouring called arm lift. That essentially involves an area from about the elbow to the armpit. The extra skin and soft tissue are essentially excised.
Who wants or needs an arm lift?
It’s most commonly found, desired or sought out from people who’ve undergone massive weight loss. It also can be from older people as they age. That arm or that skin and the soft tissue in that area has a tendency to kind of sag and it’s an easy way to take care of it.
Do I have to go to the hospital for an arm lift?
Arm lift is an outpatient procedure it’s relatively straight forward.
What can I expect after an arm lift surgery?
One of the things to realize after it’s done is there can be swelling in the hand and in the forearm. So, most commonly we have patients either wear like ace bandages or a compression garment. Usually this is for a number of months.
The other thing is with this particular procedure, with body contouring, the resultant scar is one that’s usually pretty thick and prominent all along that area. It’s one of the few areas of the body that technically doesn’t really scar or heal very well. Aside from that it is usually a very straightforward and very satisfying procedure.
