About the Surgeon

About Dr. Schroeder

Dr. Schroeder is a board-eligible plastic and reconstructive surgeon dedicated to delivering thoughtful, patient-centered care across the full spectrum of plastic surgery. Originally from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, he developed an early interest in science and service that has guided his medical and surgical career.

Dr. Schroeder attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry and Mathematics and graduated summa cum laude. He went on to earn his medical degree from the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, also graduating summa cum laude. He completed his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at The Ohio State University, where he received comprehensive training in both reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. As part of his training he worked extensively at the James Comprehensive Cancer Center — one of the largest cancer hospitals in the United States — where he was exposed to a high volume of complex reconstruction following sarcoma resection and breast cancer surgery, including advanced microvascular reconstruction.

Clinically, Dr. Schroeder enjoys the breadth of plastic surgery, with particular interests in craniofacial and extremity trauma, breast reconstruction following cancer, and cosmetic surgery of the breast and body. His academic contributions include peer-reviewed publications on topics such as ear reconstruction, free flap breast reconstruction, postoperative pain management, wound complications after sarcoma resection, and perioperative allergic reactions. He has also contributed as a chapter author on abdominal wall reconstruction.

Committed to a patient-focused approach, Dr. Schroeder emphasizes clear communication, individualized care, and long-term relationships, finding great fulfillment in guiding patients through their surgical journey and recovery over time.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Schroeder enjoys running, skiing, traveling, and exploring new restaurants. He also values time outdoors — especially walks by the lake with his wife and their bernedoodle.
