Eye Lift (Blepharoplasty)

What is an Eye Lift?

Eyelid surgery, also called an eye lift or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids by reducing bagginess from lower eyelids and removing excess skin from the upper eyelids.

Surgery can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, reduces wrinkles, improves frown lines and places the eyebrows in a youthful position.

The eye area is very delicate. As we age, the skin around our eyes becomes thinner and loses its elasticity. This can result in drooping eyelids and bagginess under the eyes. In addition, the muscles that support the eyelids can weaken with age.

Eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the appearance of your eyes, giving you a more youthful and rested look. The results of eye lift surgery can be long lasting, but they may not be permanent.

Best Candidates

You may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery if you have any of the following conditions:

– Excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids

– Loose skin hanging down from the upper eyelids, sometimes causing vision problems

– Excess fatty deposits creating puffiness in the upper eyelids

– Bags under the eyes

– Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris

– Fine wrinkles or creases in the lower eyelids

Most people who undergo eyelid surgery are 35 years of age or older, but if your eyelids are drooping and affecting your vision, this surgery is appropriate for patients of any age.

If you are considering eyelid surgery, it is important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience performing this procedure. During your consultation, your surgeon will examine your eyes and facial structure to determine if you are a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

Recovery From Eye Lift Surgery

Most people who undergo eyelid surgery experience minimal discomfort and swelling, which usually resolve within a week or two. However, it may take several weeks or even months for the incisions to heal completely.
