Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)
What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, enhances facial harmony and the proportions of your nose. It can also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose. A rhinoplasty can treat: – Nose size in relation to facial balance – Nose Width at the bridge or in the size and position of the nostrils – Nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge – Nasal tip that is enlarged or bulbous, drooping, upturned or hooked – Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned – Nasal asymmetry.
Procedure and Recovery
There are different types of rhinoplasty procedures, and your surgeon will tailor the operation to achieve the results you desire. Rhinoplasty can be performed using either an “open” or “closed” approach. In an open approach, incisions are made inside the nostrils and the skin is then lifted off of the nasal bones and cartilage, providing the surgeon with direct access. In a closed approach, all incisions are made inside the nostrils, so no visible scarring will result. The type of approach used will be based on your individual goals and desired outcome. Recovery from rhinoplasty surgery usually takes one to two weeks. During this time, it is common to experience some swelling and bruising around the eyes. Most people feel comfortable returning to work and other light activity within a week, but strenuous activity and exercise should be avoided for at least four weeks.
Rhinoplasty is a very personal decision, and you should choose a surgeon you feel comfortable with and who you trust to provide you with the results you desire. It is important to choose a board-certified plastic surgeon with experience performing this procedure. During your consultation, your surgeon will assess your goals and perform a physical examination to determine if you are a good candidate for surgery. At Northland Plastic Surgery our surgeons are experienced and will do everything they can to make sure you get the results you want.
